    Description

    Welcome.
I'm thrilled to present a gorgeous tufa cast and hand made bolo of sterling silver 14K Gold and turquoise that appears to be a deep and rich colored blue with dark matrix, probably natural Kingman mine, by the fabulous John Hornbek. Yes, he says this is the correct spelling of his name and John Hornbeck is an incorrect spelling. John Hornbek studied and worked extensively beside Preston Monongye and also was said to have worked with Charles Loloma, and his style of work is similar to both and always astonishing.  This fabulous bolo is indistinguishable from the work of Preston Monongye but for the hallmark and the price.
This bolo is wonderful. The cast work is superb with both rough and smooth contrast, and the spider and his web are very detailed. there's great dimensionality. The spider is guarding his gold egg. The cast work is detailed decoratively in ways that remind us of Preston Monongye and Charles Loloma but also have strength of their own. This is a museum quality piece, providing complex dimensionality and textured appearance.  The piece is properly hallmarked by John Hornbek with his elk footprints. There is a sculptural quality to this piece.
This bolo measures 3-3/4" high and 1-1/2"wide, very large but not too large. The Hopi tips which were added because the originals were lost, are perfect with the piece, measuring 2-3/4" long. The tie measures end to end with the tips included, measures 40" total. The condition is excellent vintage, wearable and collectible. It's gorgeous!

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.
