Documented Vintage c. 1979 Chloe Karl Lagerfeld Black Silk Dress - 70's, 80's

Description

Fantastic vintage c. 1979/1980 Chloe black silk abstract pattern dress, designed by Karl Lagerfeld. Features puffed ruched sleeves with curved seaming, a V-neckline bodice with self-covered buttons and low waist seam, and a gathered skirt with side seam pockets and a center back slit. Notched back neckline and sleeves create an abstract heart shape. Made of a two-tone woven silk and underlined in silk organza, with self-fabric covered shoulder pads. Spare button is still present, stitched to interior under right sleeve. This dress design, in an alternate color and pattern, was featured in the 1979/1980 Chloe Fall/Winter advertising campaign. A Google image search for "Chloe 1979" will show this ad.

bust - approx. 35" / 15.25 across back, between side seams
waist - 30.5" at approx. natural waist, 16" from shoulder
low waist (at seam) - 33.5" at 19.5" from shoulder
hip - 41" at approx. 25" from shoulder
bodice length - 19.5"
skirt length - 25.25" front / 26.5" side / 27" to low corner of back slit
condition - In very nice, gently used condition overall. The skirt front has three small very faint darkened areas, only seen upon close inspection, and not conspicuous when worn due to the two tones and finishes of the fabric (photo 11 for two of three), and the left underarm has some similar very minor darkening. There is an insignificant pick in fabric below front waist seam. The silk underlining of bodice has a number of little pinpoint to pinhead holes overall and a couple slightly larger holes (one 1/8" and one 1/4" hole near label, photo 12 left). The underlining of left sleeve has a 1/4" tear at underarm, the right underarm has a pinhead hole, and the skirt underlining has an 1/8" hole just above hem in back. The shoulder padding has deteriorated inside the silk cases and the pads are basically flat (photo 12). It would be best to remove or restore these prior to wear. There is a small smudge line to one shoulder pad and a light perfume odor at underarms. There are some press lines on bodice where front seam allowances have been pressed into outer fabric (photo 4) and buttons centers have some minor press sheen.
