Description
This listing is for a lovely vintage organza prom ball gown truly fit for a princess! It is rare that a gown this nice rolls around! This piece was purchased in 1970 from a thrift store that had many donated new gowns. This was one; and it has never been worn!
Fashioned of opalescent violet organza; this beautiful gown features a mermaid shell style bodice with an overlapping upward pleated cumberbund. The bodice ends in a deep vee princess waistline. The skirt is very full and measures a whopping 180" around the bottom of the hem. There is a darling capelet which drapes softly over the shoulders and snaps into the bodice. It is unsized and carries no manufacturer's label or care tag. It is very petite. Photo #7 shows the fullness of the skirt; as it is displayed over a king bed. The opalescence can be noted in photo #9.
There is light boning in the cups and up the back of the bodice. There are two substantial hanging loops. The skirt is fully lined with violet taffeta.
There are raw 1/2" seam allowances
It has a wide 2" hem, expertly hand blind stitched and backed with "horsehair braid".
ISSUES: As previously mentioned; this gown is in unworn, new condition. It is in excellent condition. It does not have any rips, tears, frays or perspiration stains. I note one very small discoloration (see photo #11). The small discoloration is approx. at the center of the pic. Hard to see unless photo is enlarged. There is also a discoloration on the back of the capelet (see photo #12). I have not tried to clean these areas; it may come out.
This item does not smell of smoke, mildew, must, mothballs or have pet odor.
The zipper works well, the snaps and hooks are secure.
*I purchased this gown at the same thrift store and the same time as a similar orange organza gown that I have since sold. The orange gown stated that it was acetate/nylon and suggested dry cleaning. The fabric in this dress appears to be the same... so I would also suggest dry cleaning. It does not appear dusty/dingy; but since the orange one did have some general grime; this one probably does too.
This item does not smell of smoke, mildew, must, mothballs or have pet odor.
Truly an amazing gown for the right petite princess! The gown rustles and shimmers... beautiful! Feminine and flattering!
